Genially: Enhancing Oral Interaction in the Classroom

GENIALLY: ENHANCING ORAL INTERACTION IN THE CLASSROOM

I am excited to share with you the successful implementation of Genially projects in our classroom to support and encourage oral interaction among students. Here's a breakdown of how we utilized this tool to achieve our objectives:

Project Staging:

  1. Stage 1: Topic Selection and Group Formation: Students were given the freedom to choose a topic related to healthy habits that they were passionate about. They then formed groups of 2-3 based on shared interests and complementary skills.
  2. Stage 2: Planning and Development: Each group used Genially to plan and develop their project. They decided on the format of their presentation, whether it be a digital poster, interactive infographic, or multimedia presentation. Students collaborated online using Genially's features to brainstorm ideas, organize content, and design visuals.
  3. Stage 3: Presentation Preparation: After finalizing their projects, students rehearsed their presentations and prepared speaking notes. They focused on improving their presentation skills, including voice projection, eye contact, and clear articulation.

Grouping of Students and Timings: Grouping students was based on a combination of factors, including their interests, skills, and working dynamics observed in previous collaborative activities. We ensured that each group had a mix of abilities to promote peer learning and support.

The project timeline was structured to allow students sufficient time for planning, development, and rehearsal. We allocated several class periods for project work, with regular check-ins and guidance from the teacher. The presentations took place over multiple sessions to ensure each group had ample time to showcase their work and receive feedback.

Additional Materials: To support students in their project development, we provided handouts outlining the project requirements, guidelines for effective presentations, and tips for using Genially effectively. Additionally, we offered project planners and templates within Genially to scaffold the planning process.

Reflection on Learning Experience: The use of Genially significantly enhanced our students' learning experience by providing a dynamic and interactive platform for project development and presentation. Students were highly engaged throughout the process, collaborating effectively and honing their oral communication skills. The tool's multimedia capabilities allowed them to create visually appealing and informative presentations, capturing the attention of their peers and promoting active listening.

In achieving our objectives of practicing speaking, improving presentation skills, and encouraging interactive listening, Genially proved to be an invaluable resource. It facilitated student-centered learning, fostered creativity, and empowered students to take ownership of their learning journey.

Moving forward, we plan to continue integrating Genially projects into our curriculum, making adjustments based on feedback and further exploring the tool's potential for enhancing student learning outcomes.
